s they visited, his wife joined them, bringing spring water for them all. She was a pleasant old rabbit, but rather sad, Jorlie thought, as she drank the cool water. The old pair reminded Jorlie of her grandparents, who died last year. They looked just as wise and good. But Jorlie didn't want to be a farmer or a farmer's wife, and she had a feeling that the old wife would agree with her husband.

She told about seeing dancers once when she was young. The old rabbit would never forget the Moonlight Bunny Revue. She had wanted to join their troop but her family had other ideas.
She looked at her husband and then at Jorlie again.
"It wasn't meant for me, but I know you would love being a dancer."

t was getting close to lunch time and Merrick smelled something delicious coming from the old rabbits' house. But Jorlie did not want to impose. She thanked the old rabbits for the refreshments and the advice, then hurried Merrick away before he asked to stay for a meal.

hey crossed a much smaller field, and came to a patch of tender grass next to a little brook and ate their fill.
During lunch Merrick said that he thought the old pair had sounded smart. "What did you think of their advice," he asked Jorlie.

orlie was beginning to wonder if anyone knew what she should do with her life. "Maybe I'm supposed to find out on my own," she said. But how can I possibly do that? I don't know enough about the world to know what's best."

Merrick wanted to help, but all he could think to say was, "I think you know a lot."
