Oklahoma City Council of Garden Clubs, Inc

March 9, 2012

The OKC Council of Garden Clubs, Inc. was called to order about 10:00 am at the Will Rogers Garden Center.

President Donnie Murray opened the pledge of allegiance to the United State Flag and reciting the Garden's Creed - she thanked the Amaryllis Garden Club for being our hostess.

Kathie Webb - garden and nursery specialist - gave us a program on container gardening and brought many beautiful plants and unusual containers to demonstrate how to place them in the pots - to always keep in mind the purpose we have for them and the locations where we want to put them. She passed out a flyer with suggestions of plants that she listed as "Thriller, Spiller, and Fillers".

April Pratt - Garden Festival in the Park Chairmen - gave us updates of her progress on the Garden Festival. She has gotten in touch with Danny Boyd, basketball coach of the Santa Fe South High School girls, and they will be delighted to be our volunteers at the Garden Festival this year. Carefree Rose Garden Club will be helping with the Children's Craft room. She still needs volunteers for the properties position which means they would be helping to make decision of where to put the signage, how many tables are needed, chairs we might need - so if anyone in your club with like to help make these decisions please get in touch with April Pratt at 812-5902.

June Hardy has informed us that the Rose Society will have their miniature rose show in the hall on the north end. She has composed a letter to all of the societies and gardens to ask them to participate and promote their garden clubs and societies to the public. You can make floral designs, have educational tables, and have specimens of your particular plants on display. Monica Arndt will help coordinate the hall and there will be the decorated chairs as we have had in the past. June Hardy (722-8822 or juneokc@cox.net) would like all entries turned into her by April 30 so they can plan the room.

It was brought up about what months the garden clubs could donate to help with the maintenance for the Legacy Garden at Will Rogers sense Marianna Anderson resigned. The Viola Club has chosen the months of April and September.

Margaret Biggs has reserved a bus for us to take to Ponca City to the NCD Convention and tour of the Marland Mansion. We will need to be at Will Rogers by 7:15; bus will leave at 7:30 and se should be back home by 6:30. Margaret thanked Donnie and Marilyn for helping her with this project and Marilyn taken Margaret for getting this together for the ones who wanted to go on the trip.

Door prizes were drawn and the meeting was adjourned.
