Art Show Talk

by Alice Woodrome

Do you paint these yourself? What are they called?
Any florals, any pictures of pigs?
Do you have something teal with accents of peach,
Or burgundy, lapis and plum?

I'm looking for something that fits in this frame
That matches this wallpaper scrap.
It's just what I want, but I want to see more.
I'll be coming back to buy that.

Nice hobby you have–it must be fun.
How do you get your ideas?
Everything is too high, too bright, too weird.
A cat should look like a cat.

Where's the food, the bathrooms, the potter from Taos,
The artist I saw last June?
Any Indian, animal, western art?
Did you know that you're getting a burn?

Take Master Card? Visa? American Express?
I'm not sure I like that frame.
I can't use this mat, a mauve one would do.
I want it to go with that.

Can you un-frame this and switch the two?
Will you hold them while I decide?
It's wonderful work–may I have a card?
I'll be back, I'll be back, I'll be back.

Marie would like this–look, you could do that.
Katie could too, if she tried.
Shhh, wait till the end of the show to buy;
He'll give you a much better deal.

If it's meant to be, it will still be here
When we come around again.
I'm thirsty, I'm hungry, I'm dead on my feet.
We've already been down this aisle.

Help me, Charlie; which one do you like?
I don't care, kick-off's at three.
Be careful now, Sweetie; no, don't touch that.
Now look what you've done, Honey Bee.

I like this piece, but the corner is bent.
Do you have another one?
Save it for me, and I'll be back.
If I'm not, where else do you come?

You can't close now; we just got here.
Do you mind if I look while you pack?
