On the Lake

Cypress Trees at the Marina

Since there were not too many hours of light to get in a paddleboat ride before dark, we went down to the marina to check it out. The Marina was manned by a young man named Nick, who was preparing to close for the day. Our disappointment turned to dejection when he added that the Marina was only open on the weekends in October, and it would be closed for the remainder of our visit.

Nick became our instant friend when he offered to loan us a key to the slip where the paddleboats were, and told us he would trust us to use it when we wanted and pay him when were ready to leave the park. His trailer was just up the hill, and he said to come by on Thursday and he would open the Marina long enough for us to settle up. When he gave us the key, he said we could take the boat out then if we wanted to, as long as we were back before dark.

Our first paddleboat ride was a short one, but delightful. Being able to rent a boat had been one of the prerequisites when were deciding where to stay, so if we hadn't been able to get out on the lake at all, it would have been very distressing. A mere five minutes and we would have been too late to talk with Nick. It was one of several happy coincidences that made our sister trip better.     Next Page     Watch Movie   Another Movie
