Chaffinch House Bed and Breakfast in Easton, MD
We stayed in motels to save money most nights of our vacation. They were quite comfortable, but did lack the charm of this beautiful Victorian Bed and Breakfast called the Chaffinch House, in Easton, Maryland, where we stayed our last night out. My good friend, Erik, drove over from Baltimore that evening to have dinner with us. It was Chris's birthday and we had a wonderful meal at Legal Spirits, where we enjoyed, among other things, the best crab soup any of us had tasted. We talked to the chef afterwards who told us that heavy cream and sherry were the secrets.

The Chaffinch House was built in 1893. Chris and I found it by accident as we walked around the neighborhood of a little town near the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay. We knocked on the door and reserved a room for the following night. I thought the stairway was spectacular. The chairs on the wrap-around porch seemed to sum up the atmosphere of Easton, named one of America's best small towns.
